The Refuge is our middle (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12) student ministry, led by our Pastor of Student Ministries Glen Lloyd, volunteer adult leaders from the community, along with college leaders from St. Olaf and Carleton Colleges.
Our mission at The Refuge is to build students of faith in Jesus Christ who are able to persevere and consistently strive for God’s will and glory. We desire to provide a refuge from disappointment and despair, relief from ordinary days, and a resurgence of hope, all the while focusing our heart, mind, soul and spirit on understanding the extent of God’s love for us, individually and collectively.
ServCore is an opportunity for students to serve in the ministry of The Refuge through giftedness and passion. Working in teams, students address the needs of our student community within The Refuge and Northfield. We have multiple team opportunities for students from 6th to 12th grade, such as Caring Hands, Music, Communications, Prayer, Equipment, Art and Graphic Design, Drama and Skits, Mission. The requirements for participation are that each student involved with a ServCore team be committed to consistent attendance at team meetings and be enrolled and active in a ZoneD small group. ServCore meets Sundays at 5:00 p.m.
MunchToFill is an opportunity to have a meal with The Refuge as we transition each week from ServCore ministry team time to ZoneD small groups. The meals, including drink and dessert, will vary weekly but will ensure you are nourished and well fed. MunchToFill takes place Sundays at 6:00 p.m.
ZoneD small groups are opportunities for students to encounter and strengthen their faith through varied studies, which are integrated through Scripture and prayer. Groups are based on grade and school placement. The intention is that these small groups shape and inform students to handle life issues for the immediate future and beyond, such as “My Self-Worth for Guys,” “My Self-Worth for Ladies,” “Don’t Waste Your Life,” and “The Pursuit of God.” ZoneD small groups meet Sundays at 6:30 p.m.
Access The Experience offers opportunity to be seen and explore the atmosphere of The Refuge, providing a safe place for students to just be in the presence of other students. This time involves games, worship through song, drama, and messages outlined to present aspects of Christianity. Bring a friend. Bring your boredom. We can handle it. The question is, can you handle the Access Experience? Access takes place Wednesdays from 6:34 to 7:34 p.m. for middle school students and from 7:14 to 8:14 p.m. for high school students.
Wednesday Night Access the Experience concludes May 28 with the Annual Slip and Slide/Crud Wars
